The whole point of Field Notes is that people connect more with themselves, and more with each other.
So as I was working through these stories, I kept noticing they had more in common than not. And I thought — what does it look like to put two of them together? A composite.
One Field Note, two people, and whatever’s sitting between them.
Here’s the experiment. Let’s give it a shot.

Nishi and Genevieve are both people I’ve gotten to work and collaborate with over the years. They’re awesome, and they’ve never met.
I’m standing under a dinosaur skeleton at the Natural History Museum when Genevieve says something, and I stop walking — because Nishi said the same thing to me months earlier, in completely different words.

Genevieve rebuilds a steel bike older than she is. Apart and back together, three times. The first attempt went badly — wrong tool, hands stuck, temper climbing.

Nishi has had the same L-shaped couch in every apartment she's ever lived in. Same corner every time. Sweats, blanket, and now sometimes, her daughter.

Both of them built a place where the competent version of themselves gets to go off duty. That’s the part I couldn’t stop thinking about.
So — where’s yours?
The place nobody needs anything from you, where you’re allowed to be bad at it, where the one everybody relies on gets to stop being that for a while.
Most people can name it in about four seconds. Some people go quiet.
Tell me where yours is. I'll read every one.
Until next time, stop fixing, start flowing,
Lindsey
P.S One more thing — tell me if this works. Or tell me it doesn't and I'll go back to one person at a time. I'd rather know.
